drinking in bars and clubs this weekend? I was wondering if the new total smoking ban had effected business. I live in Alicante and we started of with about 20% of bars opting for non smoking status, within a year there are now only a handful of bars and restaurants who have not gone back to allowing smoking and those few are very empty.

The pubs were very busy last night in my home town!
The streets were crowded with smokers tho!

I live in Melbourne (Australia). Where I live, in the state of Victoria, there has been a BAN placed on smoking in hotels / bars / restaurants etc. Legislated as of 1 July 2007, so no-one has the option to go back to it.
All the smokers will have to go outside for a smoke.
It’s has been banned in all workplaces, taxi’s etc and has been for many years. Basically in all enclosed spaces. You can of course smoke in your own home, or the homes of friends if they are ok with it, or your own car etc .. but not public places.
Personally I’m pleased. Both my mother & my paternal grandfather died from emphysema, soI couldn’t be happier about the bans.
